Piano Duet of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society was founded in 1980. Hitherto this Duet is a unique duet of pianists that constantly gives concerts in their homeland – Republic of Belarus.
During art activity staff of the ensemble changed more than once, but continuous member of the Duet is one of its founders – Valery Borovikov. Musician Borovikov is well -known for his concert transcriptions in various genres and forms: symphonic music, ballet, opera, music for theatre, etc.
Some of his works issued by prominent publishing houses.
Pianist is prize-winner of the 2nd International Competition “Duo Kodama” (for his transcriptions for two pianos, Japan, 1993). Musical compositions and arrangements by Borovikov are peculiar “calling card”of the Belarusian Duet. These works recognized in many countries of the world by performers and composers. They were heard in concert halls of France, USA, Canada, China, countries of All-Union and were included in the concert programmes of many international competitions of piano duets.
Such prominent leaders of Russian music art like A.Shnitke, B.Chaikovsky, A.Eshpai appreciated these transcriptions at their true value.
Valery Borovikov is a highly professional musician, real leader. His personality is expressed in perfect musical phrases, clear and brilliant performance. Musician is a prize-winner of the International Chamber Ensambles Competition in Pskov (2001), International Chamber Ensambles Festival-Competition “Pyongyang Spring” (North Korea,2002).
Natalia Kotova graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music , class of Professor L.Youshkevich, and completed post-graduate studies under Prof. L.Shelomentseva (1999). During the years of studies already gave many concerts. Her first concert was held in the Hall of Chamber Music of the Belarusian Philharmonic Society when she was a student of first course of Academy and since that time she gives a lot of concerts in the different halls of the Republic of Belarus. She became a member of the Duet in 1998.
In 1992 she was rewarded with the Special Diploma of Republican Piano Competition, special prize from jury of the Lysenko International Piano Competition in Kiev (Ukraine,1993).2003 – Diploma “The very best accompanist” of the International Vocalist' Competition named after Glinka. Natalia posseses exellent artistic talent, wonderful ensemble skill, high professionalism.
At present she is also a teacher at the Special Piano Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music.
Piano Duet Valery Borovikov-Natalia Kotova participated in many performances and different festivals in Belarus and outside: Rihcter International Piano Competition (Zhitomir,) Ukraine,1998),International Festivals of Piano Duets (Smolensk, Russia, 2000,2005.,Kishinev ,Moldova, 2006), International Festival of Music “Martishor""” (Moldova ,Kishinev 2006).
Traditional International Festivals “Minsk Spring”and “Belarusian Music Autumn” are always held with participation of unigue ensemble. Duet have been co-operating with the State Symphony Orchestra and the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.
The ensemble' repertoire is very various: music of different styles and genres from the classics to modern composers. At the same time the members of the duet are in constant creative search with their repertoire, extending the mastery.
Duet has records on Belarusian Radio and TV.
Two-year cycle of eight concerts “Piano duet represents…” is of great interest of audience. Series of these concerts take place in the Concert Hall of Belarusian Philharmonic Society since March, 2005.
Being the active propagandists of the best examples of piano duets' music N.Kotova-V.Borovikov perform compositions by I.Straus, I.Brams, R.Shuman, F.Liszt, F.Chopyn,music of distinguished Russian composers such as
S. Rachmaninow , A.Skrabyn,
The youthful energy and wisdom of experience combined with love of music and power of talent – therein lay the duet 's success and stability. Duet has a great popular with the listeners, plays in the best concert halls of Belarus and many Russian, Ukraine, European cities.
During their creative activities talented musicians Kotova-Borovikov have gained the audience's love both in native country and abroad.
