On 26 December on the stage of the Big Hall in the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society will be held the gala concert – CHRISTMAS IN THE PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY. It’s a musical gift to the favorite audience of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and his chief conductor the maestro Alexander Anissimov.

On the concert programme will sound popular, but all the same rarely performed works:

"Pictures at an Exhibition" by M. Mussorgsky in Ravel's orchestration, choreographic poems "The Waltz" and "Bolero".

"Pictures at an Exhibition" is a cycle of piano pieces by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. It was written in 1874 in memory of a friend of Mussorgsky an artist and architect Victor Hartmann. The orchestration of Ravel is considered the most popular among other orchestrations of "Pictures".

She successfully combines technical skills, creative inspiration and conveys the idea of the original. The work rightly was included into the concert repertoire: this work was played and continues to be played by the best orchestras and conductors of all countries and this fact confirm its invariable success among the public since its first performance in Paris in 1923.

"The Waltz" was written by Maurice Ravel in 1920 under the title "Choreographic Poem for Orchestra" and its premiere performance was a huge success in Paris. "The Waltz" was translated into production of Ida Rubinstein in the Paris Opera. There are also piano transcriptions for two and four hands. But the greatest success this work by M. Ravel was used and continues to be used on the symphonic stage.

In 1928 Maurice Ravel wrote one of his most famous works "Bolero". It was ordered by the dancer I. Rubinstein and was intended for a choreographic evocation, but this didn’t stop "Bolero" entering to the concert repertoire. The composer, who conducted "Bolero" in Paris and other cities, was the first who approves this work in the concert repertoire. "Bolero" was not only the most famous work of the composer, but one of the biggest phenomena of all music of the XX century. Nobody be unable to resist the beauty of a calmly unfolding melody, a steel rhythm and a steady dynamic crescendo.
