Mozart and Haydn are two classics, two geniuses.

Their paths crossed in Vienna in 1781, and from then on the composers developed a close friendship without the slightest hint of rivalry. At that time, Joseph Haydn’s career was growing rapidly, while Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was just entering Viennese musical life.

Mozart repeatedly showed Haydn his compositions, although he was not his pupil. Haydn, in turn, recommended his friend to clients, adding that they could not find a better composer, confessing: “Forgive me for expressing myself so openly, but I love this man very much.”

The creative contact between the two great musicians is reflected in their musical language and style.

The concert on February 25 will feature vocal and instrumental works from Mozart’s early period and examples of Haydn’s late style.

The State Chamber Choir of the Republic of Belarus, an honored group, will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Mass in D major (K.194), written by the composer at the request of Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo, who was known for his strict requirements to church music. However, despite the archbishop's constraints on the composer's imagination, Mozart created a work of beauty and inspiration.

Joseph Haydn’s vocal heritage will be represented by vocal quartets, rarely heard in Minsk, created by the great classicist to poetic texts by different authors during the last period of his life and creative career.

The concert program will be decorated with Mozart's Divertissement No. 2 in B-flat Major (K.137) for string quartet.

Artistic director and conductor - Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Mikhailova.

The concert is performed by Ekaterina Mischanchuk (violin), Alesya Tarasenko (violin), Elena Pranovich (viola), Ekaterina Okovitskaya (cello), Veronika Chernyavskaya (soprano), Alina Zlebova (mezzo-soprano), Varvara Tsaryuk (harpsichord), Ivan Finsky (piano).
